It was a sparkling April day in 2004 when I had the honor of sharing the uniqueness and beauty of the Brewster tidal flats with Dr. Jane Goodall. We talked about the culture and Natural History of the intertidal zone on three continents representing her work in Africa, my work in South America and the fertile flats that surrounded us on this memorable day. Dr Goodall was visiting Cape Cod representing the Jane Goodall Institute and her Roots & Shoots program, which the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School is deeply involved with. At one point, as the wet and muddy substrate slowly covered our feet she said “It seems the more time you spend here, the more you become part of this place.” True words indeed!
